BODY MAPPING
This part of the workshop is based on teamwork. The results should be presented as a mixture of
exhibition and performance in one room. There has to be a good communication among the artists
about their works as they should function as a "total space" in which all parts have to interact
like a big installation or composition of light, film and sound.
The subject of the workshop is to create a (visual, acoustic, political/philosophical)
mapping of the human body and present it as a whole organism. The word "body" can be understood
in many regards: medically/anatomically, poetically, socially, metaphysically, politically -
as an archive, a collection of memories, evolutionary data, a sound tool etc.
Every group of artists has to choose one part of the human body to work on. A "part" can be a single organ, system, (symbolic) function or tool of the body. For example,
a system could be the blood or nervous system; the function of a kidney that of a
filter; a tool could be a hand.
The artistic medium or method is free (sound composition/installation, video/animation work,
slide projections, poetry/typography, sculpture etc) but due to the co-operation with Radio
there should be sound involved.
The correlating different body "parts" have to work for themselves but also as a whole.
The success of the teamwork will be shown in the way that a (meta-) physical architecture/-texture
can be created that transcends the idea of a pure scientific/medical anatomy and reaches a level
where the body becomes sound, poetry, metaphor, politics.
As a first gathering of information for the BIMRAB project, this workshop could provide
and broadcast a complex "acoustic view" on the Human Body, a sonic anatomy.
The workshops by Felix Kubin and the workshop by Resonance FM will run in tandem and teamwork
between students as well as artists.
