A project on distance by Tatia Skhirtladze

Posted by Tatia - Saturday 8th December 2007 11:06 PM

Many activities in economy don’t have immediate and visible results and consequences.

The project on distance is a side specific project, developed by research of the side - Beetsterzwaag via Google Earth without knowing it in reality.
Researching and focusing on public artistic approaches on the theme economy the project deals with the idea of distance - in terms of space and of time.

The project was realized as a happening - the 50mx50m message was drawn in the grass with power mower.
Because of the size it was impossible to see the drawn message immediately. It could be viewed from a certain distance from above.
The second step of the project was to negotiate with the Google concern to show the satellite shot of this message via Google Earth with intention to give the project second live - virtual appearance. This negotiation failed.

Realization: 26.5.07, Beesterweg 12B, Beetsterzwaag
Material: power mower
Supposed time of appereance: 11.12.2007, 11:35am

after canoe trip

Posted by Jae-Min - Sunday 13th May 2007 8:11 PM

We’re working on a design works of ‘Transfer project’ that Maciek and I have been doing together.
This project can be thought with two division. One is canoe trip with only human energy from Enschede to Beetsterzwaag. The other is to transfer this canoe to a product in different context. This brochure shows how is our project progressing, and analysis of increasing emotional value embeded in new version of canoe product and decreasing of original product value(because we were using it extremely.)
We’re staying in the syb 2 days from 15 May to make package of canoe.

A PROJECT IN A PROJECT IN A PROJECT BY Danielle DAVIDSON & Anna KORTEWEG

Last year Beetsterzwaag became famous for a while due to the Political Formation of the new Dutch government, that was held in Hotel Lauswolt in Beetsterzwaag. But there are other signs that demonstrate that this assumingly small and modest town in Friesland has its aims to become more world famous- or at least better known in Europe. Take for instance the Arthouse SYB, that invites not only Dutch artists but also artists from across the border, to work on specific projects.
And in Drachten, the nearest large town next to Beetsterzwaag, is the headoffice of Europe Direct, an international organisation that provides usefull information about the European Union for citizens.

RESEARCH

The newly founded ‘Assocciation for European Commitment’ is doing research on alternative and new ways of bringing European citizens, also from small municipalities, closer together. One of the kick-off projects of this organisation is to do research on how small towns in Europe position themselves in relation to the rest of the European Union.

Danielle and Anna will dedicate their project to this organisation, by doing research on the ‘image’ of Beetsterzwaag. Therefore, they will do interviews with different companies, muncipalities and inhabitants of Friesland. They will start their research in a remote town in Friesland, and will travel in an imaginary circle to Beetsterzwaag, filming and doing interviews in different places, to find out how Beetsterzwaag positions itself in the rest of Friesland and The Netherlands.

This project refers in a way to a former project that was organised in Kunsthuis SYB, by Bureau Zeezicht. Under the title ‘Image is Everything’, the artists of Bureau Zeezicht focused on the question how they could position Kunsthuis SYB on the map of Beetsterzwaag. the street and the town. See the website of SYB for more information (in Dutch): http://www.kunsthuissyb.nl/2006zeezicht.html

MORE ABOUT A.E.C.:

The major question for the A.E.C. is stated as: is it possible to strengthen the sense of European cultural identity by sharing common values and commitment without threatening the many and diverse cultural identities? And, if intolerance is experienced among different groups, based on language, religion or other issues, what solution is there to be found?
