Dutch Art Institute
Tue April 26: Diyarbakır

In the morning Veysel gave us again a little tour, this time through new Diyarbakır.
At opening time (13.00) of the DAC Alite and some of the students had a fresh look at the presentation, and gave the exhibition a final touch which took all day. Every one worked hard to make a good presentation.
At 17.00 we had our opening and presentation. We were happily surprised by the number of local artist and interested public that joined us.

Question hour!!

During the formal presentation the audience did asked what in the hell made us decide to come to the south east of Turkey. Alite explained that the DAI was invited by the Suryoye community in Enschede but that we are very grateful for the invitation by the DAC so we are able to explore more of the area.
Later on we realize that our approach was in a way a little naive because of the political situation in the area. Unfortunaly there was some misunderstanding about the questions and answer due of language problems.
We met Sener Özmen (who we already met İstanbul as Sancho Pancha, in the video ‘The way to Tate Modern’) and Erkan Özgen. Again Veysel was a great help. After the formal talk, the director of the DAC offered drinks and snacks and the informal meeting with the artist of Diyarbakır continue.

At the end of the evening we collected our work, had a nice meal and went to the hotel. Later we got to know that some artists came back the next day with a group of students and were disappointed that the space was empty.
