Thu May 5: Mor Gabriel

The archbishop Samuel Aktaş

We went to Mor Gabriel. We all were curious on the monastery that in the end didn’t have room for us. Mor Gabriel was the most ‘luxurious’ monastery we visited. We got a guided tour by a German speaking boy, who told us everything. Or almost everything.
Later archbishop Samuel Aktaş arrived in his four wheel drive, he invited us for tea, but first we had to join his 12.00 service. We were invited for dinner and tea and to ask questions. The conversation was not really going smooth and most of us were relieved to continue their exploration of the monastery.

Seeing Mor Gabriel we were happy that we had to move to Mor Yakup; Mor Gabriel lacks the nearness of a village, which support a lot of us with ‘material’.
After visiting Mor Gabriel we went to Midyat, were some wanted to visit the weekly market, others want to explore Midyat some more and others just went back to the monastery to work on their projects.
