Dutch Art Institute
Wed April 27: Diyarbakır

In the morning most of us went for a walk in the city, explore the surroundings or had meetings with the artists they met the day before. Ruth Linnemann went to the market with one of the female artist she met the day before to buy material for her work.
At 17.00 there would be the start of a workshop ‘A consumption of Justice’, and DAI was invited to join the lecture and discussion and maybe have their say.
Some of the artist who participate in the exhibition ‘A Consumption of Justice’ thought art should provoke. Not all of the DAI students did agree. The political and geographical reality of the participants of the exhibition ‘A Consumption of Justice’ and the DAI students is not always the same. It would be a nice topic for a discussion; although we were invited as guest we could have giving a contribution. The consumption of justice can not be defined in ‘the east’ and ‘the west’ although realities and historical background might differ. The interesting question is how we can conquer the gap between social and political strata due to the changes in the socio-economic structure and the phenomenon of globalization.
The assumption that the art and culture network of the EU is flourishing might not be the reality for all western artist and institutions.
Are not all artist (western, not western) taken by a power structure and have to deal with the dictating ideologies, concepts and trends with their vast culture industry of museums, art centres etc?
When the workshop finished some artist and students went on in an informal level which did gave the opportunity to make contact which each other thoughts and preoccupations.
